This is a first blogpost on a new website. You can listen to Rabindra Sangeet by following the link below. # Introduction # "tumi nirmolo koro rabindra sangeet" Rabindra Sangeet is one of the most popular types of music in Bengal and is distinguished for its profusion of melodies and moods, as well as for its lyrics, upon which many of India’s contemporary poets have drawn extensively. Rabindranath Tagore was also a keen theatre personality and playwright. His musical plays or operas as they are called were written as musical dramas. The musical play ‘Tumba Neralo’ (The Wandering Lake) is no exception and was composed to feature in his well known play, ‘Chandalika’ (Untouchable Girl). This blog will become a repository for all fans and lovers of this great composer and poet, who started recording music in the late 1920s. In 1917, he performed two of his musical plays, ‘Chandalika’ and ‘Tumba Neralo’ at the Jorasanko Thakur Bari (Tagore family mansion) in Calcutta. Though incomplete, the recording is a masterpiece of melodious lines by a beginner of a composer. The melodious lines seem to be just right for Tagore’s poetic feel for words and phrases. He was a famous poet in his own right with an inclusive approach to music and poetry. ‘Chandalika’ and ‘Tumba Neralo’ were Tagore’s 2nd and 3rd ever musical plays respectively, and this blog will present both the recordings of the two plays. The songs of both the songs will be included in this blog over a period of time and will be subtitled and analyzed as they are added. The present release of Chandalika:The Untouchable Girl is the complete musical play which was first released as a musical drama on April 13, 1917 at Jorasanko Thakur Bari (Tagore family mansion) in Calcutta, as recorded by Debendranath Mazumdar. 61cfa1e7782029
